The APS Back to School Kickoff Takes Place Aug. 5

Aurora Public Schools is excited to start the 2017-18 school year off on a high note with our 10th annual Back to School Kickoff! APS students and families will receive free goodies, food and entertainment. This is an event you won’t want to miss.

Join us Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Town Center at Aurora.

Free backpacks and school supplies will be provided to APS students while supplies last. The event is also a great opportunity to meet school staff, explore tons of resources and register your child for school.

Low or no-cost immunizations will be available for children two months to 18 years old. Please be sure to bring your child’s shot records.

Holding strong to the belief that families are our partners in education, we can’t wait to connect with families from every school across the district.

We hope to see you there!

Help Welcome Students Back to School

community greeters photo

As summer draws to a close, Aurora Public Schools is excited to welcome our students back to school! Whether moving up to a higher grade or beginning school for the first time, we want this to be a memorable and enjoyable experience. We’d like to invite you to share in this excitement by helping us welcome students to school on the first day.

To show support for our students and their success, we are asking community partners to join our school leaders to greet students and their parents as they arrive at school. We’re asking partners to arrive 30 minutes before the first bell rings in order to welcome students. This will involve standing outside the school and saying hello or giving students a “high five.”

There are many days to choose – or you may volunteer for as many days as you are available. Please note we will need the most volunteers on the dates in bold below. Our start times vary depending on the school. Below are examples of start dates and times:

  • Wednesday, Aug. 2: Academy of Advanced Learning at 8 a.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 7: Boston P-8 at 8 a.m., Paris at 8:10 a.m., Crawford at 8:15 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 8: Most secondary schools start between 7:15-8:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 10: Most elementary schools start between 7:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., Global Village Academy at 8 a.m., Vista PEAK Exploratory at 8:20 a.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 14: Pre-K and Kindergarteners start between 7:45-9:30 a.m.

Please RSVP to the Communication Department at comm@aps.k12.co.us or by phone at 303-365-7805 to let us know if you are able to participate and what day(s) and time(s) work(s) best for you. We will email your school assignment and arrival time by Friday, August 4.

Thank you for showing your support for our students!

Learn about the APS Budget with an Innovative Tool

The vision of the Aurora Public Schools strategic plan, APS 2020, is that: every student shapes a successful future.

We know that in order to achieve our vision, we must continue to better align our resources to our work. Our district continues to challenge past budgeting practices and think differently about how to best serve our students and families.

We are also committed to being transparent with our community as our budgeting work continues. That is why we are launching a new budget tool to show stakeholders where our funding comes from and how it is used to support our students. By using this tool, stakeholders can learn what it takes to balance our budget and the many local, state and federal statutes that impact it.

APS is one of the first school districts in the country to use the Balancing Act tool. Please explore the information icons, alerts and links provided in the tool to learn about our 2017-18 budget. The APS Board of Education adopted this budget on June 20, 2017.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the APS budget and how it aligns with our work to ensure that every student shapes a successful future.
